The Association of Writers and Writing Programs 2009 Annual Conference will take place in Chicago from February 12-14, which means that this Valentine's weekend will be full of poets, writers, workshops, good poetry and many exciting events. I will be participating in the following panel from 1:30-2:45pm at the Joliet Room of the Chicago Hilton Hotel:Not Your Usual Workshop. (Bonnie Rose Marcus, Robbie Q. Telfer, Regie Cabico, Victoria Sammartino, Johanny Vázquez Paz) Writers with extensive experience teaching workshops in non-traditional settings outside academia discuss the challenges, joys, and methods of teaching in afterschool centers, homeless shelters, cultural centers, senior centers, hospitals, and prisons and consider how their teaching informs their work as writers.
I will also be signing books from 3:00-4:00pm at the Mayapple Press booth. I hope to see you there!
