Palabra Pura: Javier Huerta and Luis Humberto Valadez - July 15, 2009

Mañana es Palabra Pura y tenemos de invitados a estos dos grandes poetas. Como siempre, yo estaré allí como maestra de ceremonias. No olviden de traer sus poemas para leer en el micrófono abierto.

Javier O. Huerta is the author of the poetry collection, Some Clarifications y otros poemas (Arte Público Press, 2007), which was the 1st place winner of The Chicano/Latino Literary Prize at UC Irvine. A native of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, he holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Texas, El Paso. Currently, is a doctoral candidate in English at the University of California, Berkeley. He is currently blogging for Harriet at the Poetry Foundation’s website.

Javier O. Huerta es autor de la coleccion de poesia Some Clarifications y otros poemas (Arte Publico Press, 2007) que fue el ganador del primer lugar de The Chicano/Latino Literary Prize en UC Irvine. Originario de Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, tiene un MFA en Escritura Creativa de la University of Texas, El Paso. Actualmente es un candidato del doctorado de Ingles en la University of California, Berkeley. Al presente esta "blogging" para Harriet en el sitio de la red de la Poetry Foundation.

Born and raised in Chicago Heights, Illinois, Luis H. Valadez writes to compassionately erupt his experience and perspective on an unaware public as well as to empathize with a populace who, like himself, thought it impossible to identify with anything. He received his B.A. from Columbia College, Chicago, and his M.F.A. from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University. He is the recipient of the Lily Endowment and other awards from Hispanic Scholarship Fund. His work has appeared in esteemed journals such as Columbia Poetry Review, Bombay Gin, and Wet: A Journal of Proper Bathing. As a poet, musician, and performer he has shared the stage with Anne Waldman, Thurston Moore, Saul Williams, Jello Biafra, Strangers Die Everyday, and Against Me. He is currently a Program and Education Coordinator for Chicago HOPES resides in Chicago Heights

Nacido y criado en Chicago Heights, Illinois, Luis H Valadez escribe irrumpiendo compasionadamente con su experiencia y perspectiva de vida en un publico desprevenido asi como tambien se identifica con un publico que como el, penso que era imposible identificarse con algo. Recibio su BA del Columbia College, Chicago, y su MFA de la Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics en Naropa University. El ha recibido el premio de Lily Endowment asi como tambien otros premios del Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Sus trabajos han aparecido en revistas prestigiosas tales como Columbia Poetry Review, Bombay Gin y Wet: A Journal of Proper Bathing. Como poeta, musico e interprete el ha compartido el escenario con Anne Waldman, Thurston Moore, Saul Williams, Jello Biafra, Strangers Die Everyday y Against Me. Actualmente es un coordinador de programas y educacion para Chicago HOPES y reside en Chicago Heights.
